You are correct, sir....we do not need an elite coach because we are no longer an elite program. Which hurts - because up until Coach Knights firing (by the Devil incarnate) we were.
No sixth banner for us - at least for another seven years.

We walked by Hartman in the hall at AH at a women's game last week. You always forget how incredibly tall those dudes are until you see them.

Spike, What's the deal? So, a consensus of America's sportswriters considers Miller a great hire, great coach, great midwest recruiter and you can't be happy? Please enlighten me about Alford's resume that suggests he would be better? He simply hasn't been up until now, so what would it take to make you happy? Is it all fake news and Alford has actually won the ncaa and made it to the Elite 8 over the last ten years multiple times, but we don't know about it? I'm not about to predict a title, but I feel very comfortable guaranteeing 2 Elite 8 appearances in the next 7 years and I'm 90% sure we'll see a final four. #ArchieRulesAlfordDrools

#archierulesAlfordDrools <- what he said! Ps. all the press I can read is totally positive. Let's give the guy a break and hope he can win the hearts and minds of those negative whinny old farts. Yes, he has to win, and if not he and glass are probably gone (in a shorter time period then 7)

Gobsmacked. Really loved that presser. Dude is going to get it done and done with Indiana kids which is what I really think all the "keep it in the family" folks really mean or want even if they insisted on the coach being from IU/the state. #ArchieRulesALfordDrools

Yeah, PoolBitch is fine with Miller or Mack or Marshall or the other Miller or some other unworthy mid major fuckhead coming in and deciding "well, it will help recruiting to wear the black uniforms for a few home games". And then decide "well I think our kids deserve to have their names on the back of the jerseys". Then they will say "well it will harm my players self esteem if they always have to stare up at the 5 banners....lets move them". Then he says "whats wrong with going to Fort Wayne or Valpo for a game"...and before you know it, your new coach is at 18-16 again.
And the point that was missed by you again, TStew, is that NO coach like Alford, Donovan, etc would ever come to IU not because they are not high echelon coaches, but because IU has become a program that has fallen from national prominence - and therefore no elite coach would come here. That was made painfully evident with the hire of Miller. A gradual erosion of success and reputation that losing and poor coaching hires and questionable recruits makes occur.
The General - 95-96 20 wins 96-97 22 wins 97-98 20 wins 98-99 23 wins 99-00 20 wins. from 90 to 93 87 wins combined. not even talking about 70's and 80's Always in the tournament 1992 Final Four 93 elite eight
The standards must remain where they were in the championship years. This helps to insure that the traditions are kept. When we won the title in 1987, I didn't want to be anyplace else but IU. We WERE an elite basketball program.
Coach Knight - you can stay at my crib anytime. It all went to hell when the Devil fired you.

It is amazing to me that to a T the only people complaining about this hire are the one's who wanted an "IU Guy"...you and Ted Kitchel and Daawkitch (and Dakich really only wants Alford b/c he'd get inside access that others won't give his dumbass). So, apparently the rest of Hoosier Nation, the media and anyone else who knows anything about basketball is apparently clueless (and that includes Seth Greenburg, because he is fucking clueless).

What's this about Robby Benson? -er.. anyway. I think we ALL are in agreement that it's not currently an elite program. You can't just shit one of those. What IU does have now that can not be taken away IS THAT HISTORY. We have it and can get there again, but we all have said the same thing.. there isn't a hire right now that would guaranty anything. Coach K could come, Izzo as an assistant, and Calipari cooking the books and getting recruits (ok, maybe that but I digress) So seeking common ground here.. I think we got the best coach that would come to the current state of our program that will hopefully leverage the past to get us back to that spot. Greasing the wheel for Brad Stevens? Greasing the wheel for Alford? (when he get's run out of UCLA) Maybe, just maybe this will be lighting in the bottle again with some young talented coach from Ohio. OUT
