The Indiana program wasn't enough of a pull to keep a couple of top recruits around...looks like its going to get worse before it gets better.

Also, there are no current Dayton signees in the 2017 ESPN Top 100, so no chance of bringing anybody great who signed with the Flyers over. No word from Justin Smith yet, the #77 ESPN top 100 IU signee

The four top recruits in Daytons 2017 class (7 foot center Jordan Pierce, 6-4 G Jordan Davis, 6 foot G McKinley Wright, and 6'6 F Nahziah Carter) have all stated initially that they will wait to see who Dayton hires.

Dude, slow your roll. Those dudes decomitted when Crean got fired. You have to decomit when a coach leaves a program and you're a new recruit coming in.
That's standard practice.
If every single player returns and the three that are already committed come on board then Indiana is over-signed by three. They were gonna lose three guys one way or another no matter what.

Didn't Archie Griffith win the NBA championship with six scholarship players, three guys from a local high school, the point guard from the women's team, and the mascot?

Rabjohns was on JMV on the way home...from what he has heard, OG is likely going pro, TB is 50/50, no one really knows what JBJ is going to end up doing.
D'ron Davis is staying, Juwan Morgan is likely to stay. He said Robert Johnson is eligible to grad transfer and may or may not do that. He didn't have any other comments that I recall on current players.
He believes that with the three commits Justin Smith will likely stay, and we'll probably end up keeping one of Moore/Durham and lose one. He said which ones he felt would likely stay or go specifically, but I can't recall which.

Just so we are clear, commits do not "ALL" do that. They do not "ALL" decommit and/or tear up their national letter of intent. I'm sure some of the Dayton kids will not enroll there, just like on the flip side some of our recruits may sign with us anyway.
Next, the oversigning thing rarely if ever becomes an issue. Strong players (like Stanford Robinson and Jeremy Hollowell) transfer because they simply don't see a path to the minutes they expect, which creates roster spots. I would prefer to have the over signing "problem" than to have recruits decommit. and you know the sharks are all over Durham and Smith.
He better win now. So much for the "double check plus" for the high level coaching candidates that are connected to Indiana - and the only team out there that I see playing defense like Coach Knight's teams is South Carolina. We couldn't have waited a week to speak to Frank Martin? He better win now.

You are correct, not "ALL", that would be an absolute and not true. But, my point stands. While I'm on point, you can't be serious about Frank Martin.
That dude has done NOTHING until now and is not exactly looked upon favorably in most circles, I have first hand knowledge of that.
You also haven't seen Dayton play apparently.

I think the question to my "currently-playing-the-hater role" brother is: Name one f'ing coach that we could have gotten where there were not going to be kids who "decommit"? Where there would not be pressure to win right away? My point is, Insert guy x and and whole 'nuther crop of crap gets thrown in. If not you another hater would pop up. Not agreeing with the decision is fair and expected. It's just not going to change anything. To paraphrase RMK if your going to be forced to take something you don't want you might as well enjoy it.

Oh. My. God.
Coach Knight was "not looked upon favorably in most circles". Holy shit, you can't win championships with milk, cookies, and PC! Coach Knight won a lot when he not necessarily should have because he was demanding and didn't put up with any bullshit from his players or anybody else - that stuff would have distracted him from winning. I don't see any other coach out there who is cut from the same cloth as Coach Knight except for Frank Martin, and guess what?? His 7th seeded team is in the Final Four....and where are we???
Didn't you guys dig being on campus in 92 when IU made the Final Four with Calbert and the Grahams and Nover? And that wasn't even a championship!!! We have to get back, and the mid major guy we just hired isn't going to get us there.

And as for you Commish - you honestly think Dunham and Smith would have decommited for a two time national champ and the ex coach of Russell Westbrook and the Thunder? Or the 1st team all American and National champ at Indiana who had the UCLA job and coached Lonzo? Just not seeing it clearly brother...

They would not have decommited (unless they did it prior to the hire) BUT those coaches wouldn't/didn't come here due to what we are talking about in another thread.

Trust me, I wanted BD for that very reason. Don't hate me, as stated 40 times but one more time for clarity. I think Miller is a good hire for: the people that were honestly being considered and available and would have some sort of possibility of coming here. Now go watch a Tom Brady cooking video, we true hoosiers have serious matters to discuss. :-)

Um, they did decom prior to the hire, so you can't say that Spike. Just saying..... There are NO ALTERNATIVE FACTS.

Newkirk's dad apparently confirmed he's staying.
And apparently Hartman put something up on Instagram indicating he wants to play out his eligibility.
I think I also saw something about Bryant being a lean toward returning.
Right now, it's actually looking like the only departure may be OG.

Yep, Hartman officially coming back. He has a video on Indiana Basketball official webpage declaring it.
I was actually hoping some guys would leave. But OG, Bryant and Blackmon all are going to test the waters for the League, but none are hiring agents.
It really may come down OG being the only one leaving and the abscence of another solution (someone scholly getting yanked or someone getting converted to an academic scholly), we'd have 12 scholarship players, so only room for one of the three new dudes and no room for any grad transfers or anything else.

This is my biggest fear, same team, new coach. Trying to teach hustle and defense to these dudes is worth $3 million a year, success will be nil.
