A long way to go and a short time to get there. Archie wasn't handed the Dream Team, but wasn't handed a program decimated by probation and Sampson's (who shouldn't be coaching) other bullshit. Archie needs to spend every waking moment figuring out how to get some players, because I am pretty certain he wasn't hired to not make the NIT. DISMAL performance in NYC where a win over the 14 seed sets IU up with Purdue and a potentially season changing game. This season, ok fine. Next season, we need to be in the NCAA tournament and if we aren't Arch should keep his resume current.
Fuck purdue

I would agree that next season needs to be a tourney season. 3 years in a row will cause me great existential stress on my hippocampus.

Time for some HOT TAKES!!!
- With the lone exception of the period between the Wat Shot win and subsequent defeat to UK in the tournament, IU basketball has been, at best, a 3rd tier program - Barring major rules changes regarding one-and-done, IU will remain in a "post-Wooden UCLA"-level funk for the foreseeable future unless they hire a coach who's previously won the tournament. - IU will have a new head basketball coach no later than the start of the 2022 season.
COME AT ME!!!

You better check them hairy balls for a cranial hemorrhage, son. This team can play some D and an outside shooter or two would open up the sets that the little hitler-sized coach, Archie Miller, was running all season. Good ball movement, just no consistent knock down shooters, so we don't need no bullshit, previous winner. That recycled crap is why the NFL has the same stupid ass short-list of coaches year in and you out. Gotta think outside the box foo.
Furthermore, who is in this TURD tier? Are you are calling us Creighton or Rutgers man? In my mind, their ain't no tier below TURD tier and we were only Rutgers level turds for the first couple years of Crean.

A handful of games in half a season does not a program make. I recall getting all excited by Tom Pritchard once upon a time based on a small sampling not realizing he'd be much more valuable to the university by his beer pong skills. First tier - UK, Duke, UNC, Kansas ... no one else 2nd tier - recent winners or challengers - Villanova, Louisville, UConn (but slipping), Gonzaga, Michigan State 3rd tier - zombie programs that swell up occasionally but mostly live on reputation - IU, Syracuse, Florida, Arizona, UCLA ... you get my drift College basketball = coaches league NBA = players league

Hmmmm, not sure I'm gonna agree with your tiering system, not sure what you are basing it on either. Why does Kansas get Tier 1 but not Villanova (or Michigan State)? Kansas hasn't wont a title since 2008. I think Kansas is an elite program, but there are more than 4 elite or Tier 1 programs. Kansas isn't even a blueblood like IU or UCLA, at any rate, Michigan State and Villanova are tier 1 programs right now. So, put six teams on tier 1
UConn should be dropped they are basically irrelevant now, to tier them any higher than IU is not logical. Could almost same the same with Louisville based on the state of their program, but I can see why they'd be a tier higher than IU, but that won't last with the shape they are in. Syracuse, Florida, UCLA all trending down, but makes sense to place them a tier above IU. Butler should be in Tier 2, or any tier one above IU.
The thing is you are applying 1990s logic to 2018 reality. Teams move up and down every year now, it isn't like it used to be b/c the entire landscape has changed.

Tier 1 = national brands, consistent performers, show-em-your-dick recruiters, and protected programs by the NCAA. They can break any rule and get away with it. Tier 2 = regional brands who consistently perform, recruit well, etc. Can win title while under investigation for using hookers in recruiting. That kind of stuff. Tier 3 = regional brands who ride on past reputation.
Point taken on UConn.
New HOT TAKE - UConn and IU are the same program. - Relevant during a specific time under a specific coach - Said coach had to leave his job - Highly successful under coach - First replacement was immediately successful but dwindled - UConn will now constantly be in search of their next great era, but will never find it. WBB team will win 14 of next 15 titles, though.

Mmmm, cranial hemorrhage ...
I do believe the Pool Bull is completely plugged in this March; may I please request some winning lottery ticket advice 'cuz this 50+ years in Larryville/picking the first game wrong every ... f*cking ... year clearly ain't workin' out. (Nor did the adidas thang as, despite being promised an email within two weeks either way, I got nothing and was forced to (likely) age-discriminate like it! Nom nom.
Love always, E of the Shawn
