So, Hoosiers. Mike Woodson. Yay, meh, or let’s see?
Woody was gone right before I started paying attention, so I don’t have memories of him as a player. He seems like the only alum who’s had anything resembling success as an NBA coach. Should make the “keep it in the family” crowd happy for a minute.
Opinions?

I think having Thad on board makes this look really freaking good. Dolson has a vision and is putting together a pretty solid staff.....really hoping this translates to success.

Had to have an IU/Coach Knight guy this time. Has NBA contacts and a good reputation there for players who have their eye on being a pro. Matta on staff alleviates the only perceived weakness which is no college head coaching experience - but these days you cant rule someone out because of that. Archie had plenty of experience. Howard takes Mich to the 8, Ewing wins Big East tournament, Hardaway wins NIT. The biggest thing now is recruiting and keeping TJD(needs more development) and Franklin around. Probably should have been the hire after Crean. Let's get it - Go IU!

I am pleased. Woodson's gorgeous bank shot etched in my wet-dream memories, and he was a Big Ten Player of the Year.
Surely that will translate!

I think having Thad on board makes this look really freaking good. Dolson has a vision and is putting together a pretty solid staff.....really hoping this translates to success. Was golfing with Parrish today and chatting about how it really follows an NBA model. Matta is, for all intents and purposes, the GM in charge of running the organization and getting players (as much as a non-recruiting staffer can do or direct that). Woodson is the bench coach - he just has to make the parts work. It's intriguing. As some of you know, a few of us have a mutual friend who is very close with Matta. His insight was Dolson's first call to Matta was "can you help me with Brad Stevens?" Then it became "are you interested in getting back into coaching?" Apparently Matta thought it over, but decided his health still wasn't to the point of dealing with the rigors of being a head coach. Then it became "how can you help us?" That's how the Ops Director thing came about. So, we'll see. IU could be revolutionizing how big time college athletic programs are run in the future. Or it could be embarking on another failed experiment and we'll be doing this all again in five years. I'm cheering for the former.

It will be interesting see how it goes. Hope for the best. I sure hope one of the teams I have followed since I was a kid gets their shit together at some point and gets good again, sure as heck is never going to be the Reds at this point.
College hoop might change a bit next year anyway with the new NBA minor league coming in to play.
