Interesting you mentioned him, Sam Story posted this in a discord chat I'm in yesterday:
Spoke with his AAU coach and mentor this morning. Thought of you for asking.
I hadn’t seen him since he was a HS junior. He grew another inch or so and he contends he is every part of 6’10. He cut out fast food and lost 40 lbs. Led to improved athleticism and agility which played a “huge fucking part” in his success this year.
Indiana is awaiting to sort roster stuff but they are pushing very hard. That tells me the Duncomb ideas I previously shared could be true… Or they just know they want him and will be all over him.
A “lot” of high-majors are interested.
Thought you’d like to know/ hear that.

The issue I have with a number of these comments regard roster decisions that IU has to make is that a few of you still believe that in 2022 IU is a blue blood dominant program. We aren't. Last 6 seasons 106-88 with one NCAA trip. A top level transfer would just as easily go to Texas, Xavier, Iowa St, etc. Improvements need to be made incrementally. We will not sign the top 7 players in the portal. Keeping X and TJD (if not a lottery pick in 23 a first round draft choice - if he declares now its second round or not at all) is key and adding the players I mentioned would help. But the big key is getting rid of the players that can't help. Adding proven players and getting rid of the ones that have proven they can't will incrementally improve IU.
I am old enough to remember IU going into Dean Smith's Carmichael Auditorium on the NBC game of the week and kicking their ass. We aren't good enough to do that type of shit anymore. Incremental improvements with portal players who are proven, and eliminating roster players that aren't is Woodie's ticket.

The problem with this is......that isn't the answer, otherwise the program is in a perpetual loop of what it is now. IU is a blue blood by virtue of 5 national championships, if you don't understand what that term means, then I suggest you stop using it.
IU doesn't need to jump on the first half way decent player to enter the portal...since you made this original post there are at least a dozen players with a much higher ceiling and skill level that have entered the portal than Sessoms that I am aware of and yes, some of those are players that Indiana could easily get. Sessoms is just the only one you've probably seen play b/c he is in the big Ten. Get Kopp level players, then we'll have Kopp level results and Sessoms isn't much of an upgrade over Kopp.
There will probably be close to 2000 kids in the portal when it is all said and we are at about 400 right now...be patient.

It was determined by the staff that Lander can't play at big Ten level - so good for him to be on his way. Archie will play him. Time to make that decision for a few other deadbeats on the roster, and then things open up for improvement.
Get Wittman aboard also

Lander does not like Archie and Arch didn't play him last year. His mom literally called him a snake oil salesman last year. man, come on are you trolling or what?
And Wittman? Why? What does he have to offer?

Thanks Stew. I logged in and dug through that 700+ reply thread to see Rabby’s note and follow-ups. Sounds like Fife assumed he was the head coach already and didn’t have a boss to answer to.

What does Randy Witmman have to offer??? Come on man - that is ridiculous. Can't even respond to that.
I don't care where Lander goes. Archie recruited him, so I felt like there could be a connection. If not, I don't care
This is working out well so far. Two schollys that can't play are gone in Lander and Durr, and I hope a few others follow suit quickly

Durr leaving clears the way to bring in Payton Sparks. Not sure I'm on board with it, but is seemingly the direction IU is going to go for a backup big.

This is the only way IU is going to get back to respectability fast. We have players currently who get starter/rotation minutes who do nothing statistically, and not much help from the rest of the roster. We need players who can start and deliver numbers, and a stronger overall roster with an emphasis on 3 point shooting. The coaches should be meeting right now to prepare conversations with each player - basically saying (except for TJD and X) you were either statistically insignificant or you werent good enough to play so you don't have a roster spot. Geronimo, Galloway, and Bates probably stay....maybe Phinisee. But IU needs roster spots for transfers that are proven starters. Tell Leal and Lander (and Stewart for that matter) they can go play for suck ass Archie Miller who recruited them, and either simply not renew Durrs scholly or just tell him if he stays he wont play. Those conversations should open up roster spots immediately to make us stronger throughout the roster which must happen. And - we use the portal for complete proven big minutes players - not role players. The model for appropriate use of the portal is X - he started for Pitt and averaged 15 and 5 assists there. In 57 minutes, Kopp/Stewart/Phinisee were 1-13 from field with 4 rebounds and no assists. And for the season (Phinisee was hurt for some of it) theirplay in no way justified the minutes they got Talk about the travel schedule all you want, but IU does not have good enough players to compete for a BigTen title/advancing in March. I believe Woodie can take care of this, but it has to change now. Stewart is gone (90 percent) - (now officially not returning)
Durr - He will likely be back he has already used his one trasnfer without sitting.....so can't see him leaving to sit out another year and is worth 8-0 minutes per game (missed this one, didn't realize he got his degree this year, so can transfer as a grad transfer withtout sitting out...but I did miss the one, so far 2 for 3)
Lander - Going, going gone (officially in the portal)
