Well, not dead. Just fired. I'm sure some out there wanted him dead. I imagine he'll be coaching somewhere next year and will probably eventually take another team to the Final Four just to piss off IU fans. In the meantime, Glass says 'no search committee.' Instead, he's going to consult with in-state basketball experts, which I assume to mean Peegs posters and people with big Twitter followings. God knows those muhfuggahs know everything. Just ask 'em. So, as an epitaph, stuff Crean did well: - Drag the program out of a dark era - shit was bad, bad, bad when denim shirt left. Dude got things back to where you weren't ashamed to wear your IU gear.
- Run a respectable operation (for the most part) - players graduated and went on to pro careers
- Get strong recruiting classes (pre 2012, post 2014) - other than three classes of bozos, lots of good talent came through IU. There were some gems in the 2012-2014 classes, but we also lost a lot of depth to guys who didn't stick it our (or shouldn't have been recruited in the first place)
- Won conference titles - two in the last five years. Not great, but better than the record had been.
- Deliver some big wins - wins over UNC and Kansas this year, a couple wins over UK, etc.
- Win a bit in the tournament - after years of one-and-dones, a sweet 16 trip felt like a deep run
- Generally be approachable - this is mostly a personal thing. I ran into the dude a couple times at football games in "just me and him" situations. He always greeted me and did the standard "small talk with a stranger" thing.
But he also: - Was a weirdo in a time when being a weirdo wasn't a good thing - social media makes it easy to share pics of you slack-jawed with your pants pulled up to your nipples. Weird haircut. Weird tension. Weird.
- Too many off years - yeah, Big 10 titles. But also more years where you were in the back half of the conference AFTER the whole "we're back" era.
- Not enough REAL tourney success - sweet 16s are sweet, but Final Fours win you time and support. Sure, two of the losses were to eventual nat'l champs or runners up. Syracuse year is still unforgivable.
- Those 2012-2014 recruiting classes - sure, Yogi. But the others have a heck of an arrest record without the production on court to forgive ('cause, remember, Yogi also got cited)
- Never seemed to improve his teams - things were either always really good, or always looking like the wheels were about to fall off.
- Didn't get things back on track fast enough - I always thought he was at least a year behind in the recovery process. Like the 09-10 team should've won at least 15 games, 20 the next year, etc.
That's all I have to say about that. God knows what's waiting in the wings.

Have Cuban pay Alford to leave the Ball family in Westwood. If Alford shoots that down, hire Dane Fife.
Fuck Brad Stevens - he isn't an IU and never will be. Plus obviously no direct link to The General.

Just need to get off Bobby's sauce. Guy has soured so much I don't want to see anything like his ilk back at my Uni. All we need is solid basketball, good fundamentals, and consistent high tier W's.

Un fucking believable.
Our "uni" doesnt deserve to have a champion like Coach Knight grace its hallowed halls. Better yet I guess to so distance yourself from The Generals greatness that you must accept mediocrity - Davis (couldnt coach or recruit) Sampson (2 time NCAA cheat) and Crean (couldnt win consistently). I think that is known as cutting off your nose to spite your face.
And it wouldnt need to be the explayers you mentioned. Steve Alford or Dane Fife would do nicely. If one of the usual suspects is hired - you know, Gregg Marshall, Archie Miller, or fucking Brad Stevens you will get more of the same and wonder why.
Fun Fact: Did you know that Coach Knight won 2 of his 3 national titles with players from Indiana, Illinois, and Ohio only? Name another coach who has done that - I think (other than the undefeated national title run) that was his greatest achievement

Just to make sure I'm reading this right, a guy who has a sub-.500 w/l record as a head coach of a commuter school and has been an assistant coach for the past six seasons is a better choice than a guy who led a team to two national championship games.
Did I get that right?

Yes.
This is a repeat, so please pardon me other smackers if you read the other thread - although reading me over and over does make you smarter, better, and cooler.
The head coach at IU should be the following:
1.) He must win every year. 24-30 wins per year. Win the Big Ten Title or challenge for it. Get to the final of the Big Ten Tournament or win it. NCAA bid every year with a Final Four run every 3-4 years.
2.) He must have a direct connection to IU, what IU basketball is all about, and The General. He had to have lived the life.
It is quite possible that Archie, Gregg, Fucking Chris Mack, and/or Fucking Brad Stevens could get hired, and be neither. At least if we hire someone who has #2 under his belt, IU nation can relax a little bit knowing that we got back to our roots of success and tradition. Also, Alford and Fife (those six years of assisting were for Tom Izzo, not Mike Davis or some other schmuck)have just as good of a chance to win consistently as the usual suspects

Read about Fife please. He is not an x and o's kind of guy. He is not the answer. Knight got it done because he was an x and o's guy. That is what we need. Your insinuation that I am for Crean, Davis and Sampson is laughable. They all needed to go, but sticking to some formula that apparently reads Bob Knight not only coached, but taught these guys you want "how to coach" is also laughable. Coaches, coach and kids play. Is Alford a decent coach, sure. Is he Bob Knight, not for a single fucking second, so please.

I agree with you that Coach Knight was brilliant with the "x's and o's" - a brilliant man, leader, and coach. Unfortunately that is not what the college game is about in 2017. It is about recruiting. If you have Lonzo Ball, TJ Leaf, Bryce Alford, Holliday, and Hamilton (plus the other 2 bigs) on your team then you aint Xing and Oing shit. Alford would get the top players nationwide and in Indiana to play at IU, and Fife could get just as many top 100 recruits as a Miller, Mack, Marshall, Stevens, or________________________(fill in the name of the mid major coach who gets to the elite eight) and would have the added benefit of having played for Coach Knight which is a connection that the fan base wants. If you have the best players, you have put yourself in a position to win consistently and continue the championship tradition that IU enjoyed during the Generals tenure. Alford sure as hell would get them, and Fife could do as well in that department as any of those mid major flacks and/or the guy in Boston.

Biggest problem. If Alford ends up blowing which is possible and, I would argue, more than likely as he truly hasn't shown much to this point in his coaching career, I think you destroy Hoosierland. Let the Knight days be gone and fondly remembered as opposed to trying to relive them. If it works, hey, that would be awesome, if it fails, get ready for 30 more years of mediocrity. I just think it puts too much pressure on the program to live through someone else's legend.
